- In context, we can see that the narrow gate and the “road that leads to life” come right after Jesus’s crucial summary of the Law and the Prophets, also known as the Golden Rule.
- Jesus asks his followers to do for others the same kinds of things they’re hoping to have done for them.
- The Golden Rule asks us to use our own soul as a reference point—and to do for others what we know deep down would be best for them.
- Why do you think people want to replace the Golden Rule with the Platinum Rule?
- What do you think it means to use your own soul as a reference point for how to treat others?
- For today’s action challenge, take a sheet of paper and draw a line down the middle. On the left, make a list of all the kinds of things you wish others would do for you. Don’t worry about specifics, just write out general categories. On the right, write out some tangible, specific ways that you could do those same things for other people. Pick one or two to try out today, and write down what happens at the bottom of the list.
