- The clear emphasis of the Sermon on the Mount is about putting Jesus’s teachings into practice.
- Jesus says that those who put his teachings into practice are wise. He doesn’t say, “That person’s life is probably going to be terrible, but in the end I’ll take them to Heaven.” He says, that person will be someone who is actually living in accordance with how I’ve made human beings to live.
- Much of Christian culture has tended to emphasize the importance of correct beliefs to the exclusion of correct actions. But here Jesus is saying that holding the right beliefs won’t matter if they don’t lead you into a changed life.
- What teachings of Jesus are most challenging for you personally?
- What would putting those teachings into practice free you from?
- The sermon on the mount is all about action. Out of all the teachings of Jesus, which sections do you feel like Jesus is leading you most right now to grow in? Today’s action challenge is to spend some time praying about what they might look like, and commit yourself to intentional action.
