An Axis Course On Advent and Your Family

You’ve made it to another Friday! Today is another day to catch up on what you missed so far and prepare for tomorrow’s serving experience.

Abraham Lincoln is attributed as saying, “To ease another’s heartache is to forget one’s own.” In the process of serving others and helping lift their burdens, we often feel our own burdens lightening. Tomorrow we invite you to find an opportunity to experience this as a family.

One of the discussion questions from yesterday was, “What’s one thing our family could do to show love to someone?” If your family had any great ideas, make sure to write them down, then figure out what it would take to make them happen. If you didn’t ask that question, brainstorm as a family tonight how you might be able to show love to someone who needs it. This might look like inviting someone who’s missing out on community to eat dinner with your family. Or it might look totally different, like taking food to a homeless person or connecting with a local organization or agency.

Whatever you decide, remember that in these works of love, we are not just serving our fellow human beings. As Jesus said in Matthew 25:40, “Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”
